First Snow

single snowflake in macro

When I looked out the window this morning, I expected to see snow blanketing the ground. The sky was that snow colour of grey. I was surprised to see the leaves and dry brown grass of my backyard, just as I’d left them the day before.

A magpie and a chickadee both greeted me from the tree outside my bedroom window, bringing a smile to my lips. There was fog clinging to the edges of the wildlands.

Snow is coming today, I thought.

By the time I’d brushed my teeth and made my way downstairs, as three more magpies yelled at something below my kitchen window from their perch in the pine trees, I noticed tiny drops of white falling intermittently. Another smile broke out on my face and I hurried to the back door, quickly slipping into my big wool coat and outdoor moccasins before letting myself out into the cold.

Even in that short time, the intermittent flakes had picked up speed and I was met with a sound like static as the tiny flakes hit the dry leaves that blanketed the ground. Grinning, I stepped out of my moccasins and placed my bare feet on the grass. I bowed myself low, gathering up the energy of the Earth into my body, releasing it up into the sky with an exhale and then pulling that Universal loving light energy down into my body to mix and mingle with the Earth’s energy there.

Three times I performed my Mayan breathing before placing one hand on my heart, one hand on my belly, and speaking my morning prayers aloud into the falling snow. By the time I was finished speaking, hardly even two minutes later, the snowflakes had thickened and were coming down much faster, a thin layer already clinging to the trees and dusting the deck.

Beautiful.

Magic.

I am smiling even as I write. Grateful for this life.

It is moments like the one described above that make a mundane life magical.

While it is nice to have the time and space to drop into more elaborate ritual, ceremony, and spell work… none of that is necessary to imbue a life with presence and meaning.

This kind of presencing, of pausing time for a brief moment of wonder, is what we begin to lay the foundations for inside of Unleash Your Inner Witch as well as being an important part of the work of transformation and re-enchantment that happens when we journey together in Rekindled (1:1 support).

I would be so honoured to walk with you for a time.

If you are feeling the call towards a more magical life, don’t hesitate to reach out 💗
